Chapter 45
I’m not completely sure what wakes me up, but as I regain consciousness, I stretch and slowly open my eyes. Blinking away the last dregs of sleep, I glance around the room, momentarily forgetting I am in the safe house at all, until I clock the bland walls, the dull furniture, and the creaky bed as I shift slightly.
Looking to my side, I see nothing but wrinkled bedsheets. I’m not sure why the empty space surprises me, as if I expected him to stay after last night.
The thought disappears as the events of last night start running through my mind. I feel a slight soreness in my muscles as I sit up, and in my neck as I look around. Running my fingers over my skin makes the bruises left from his mouth sting, and I smile at the memories.
