Chapter 54
I can actively feel my heart thumping in my throat as David all but shoves me into the waiting car outside.
When he slams the door shut, walking around to the other side, I feel overwhelmed by the silence in the car as Theo turns the ignition on. David is getting in, so is Marcus, and then the car is moving.
The guys start talking immediately, trying to work out between them why they’ve been let out of the building with no consequences, why the sudden change of heart, and what on earth they could be planning. It is a heightened conversation, each of them wired as fuck as they try to understand what the fuck just happened. The uncertainty is fueling their rage, only able to ask rhetorical questions as they plan their next point of action. Each word feels like it is slapping me in the face, a horrid reminder that I have all the answers, but I can’t say a single thing about it.
