Briar’s POV
I constantly tapped my feet against the floor, unable to sit still as anxiety ate away at my nerves. Every shadow outside the window made my heart jump, every sound in the distance had me tensing for another attack.
"They should be here by now," I muttered, biting my lip as I stared out into the darkness for what felt like the hundredth time in the past hour.
Kieran had gone to bed an hour ago after I’d insisted I was fine, but sleep was the furthest thing from my mind. How could I sleep when Kai and Kylan were still out there, potentially facing more of Malachar’s creatures? What if something had happened to them? What if they were hurt, or worse?
I’d been pacing for what felt like hours when I finally heard the rumble of an engine outside. My heart leaped as headlights swept across the window, and I practically ran to the door.
