Briar’s POV
"It’s okay, baby," I said, though my heart was racing. "We’re going to be fine."
But as the shadows closed in and I heard Malachar’s cold laughter echoing through the house, I realized that running might not be enough.
A shadow creature lunged toward Luna, its claws extended, and something inside me snapped. Power erupted from my chest like a tidal wave, silver light cutting through the darkness and sending the creature flying backward into the wall.
"Whoa," Finn breathed, his eyes wide as he stared at me.
"Mama, your eyes are glowing!" Luna whispered, half-terrified, half-amazed.
"Kieran!" Kai’s voice roared through the chaos. "Get them out! Now!"
Kieran appeared at my side, his sword dripping with black ichor. "There’s too many of them," he said grimly. "We need to go."
