Each of us, in our own way, was utterly faithful to that. As I had said -- and heard -- so many times, we always came back. That was the fundamental pillar that bound us. Second, all of us had an insatiable fire to explore. But each of us -- unique in our own ways, with our own predilections -- explored the boundaries of desire and infatuation.

When I shook myself out of my daydream, I need to regather my bearings. The girls were gone. All four of them. A foggy, peripheral image had made me assume they went somewhere together. So I went on the hunt. The whole evening had become a voyeur’s delight, and my eyes darted left and right as I cruised through our compound.
