"So, I have to admit," Patrick said, "when Kelly put us in touch, I never would have dreamed what it was about."
We had spoken twice on the phone in the past week. My offer to him was simple. Kat had spoken about him with such a level of desire, I wanted her to experience it again, if he was willing.
"Life is never very predictable, I've found," I said.
"I've thought a lot about your offer," he said. "You should know, I'm a lot different than I was when Kat and I knew each other. It was a long time ago and, frankly, it didn't last that long. Do enough c****ne, and you can kind of make yourself believe anything!"
"Kelly said you're in a really good place," I admitted.
"Life is good," he said. "I have no complaints."
"Is Kat the one who got away?" I asked.
He laughed. "It might have seemed like it at the time," he said. "I think we both felt that way. But it wasn't true. It was a brilliant infatuation."
