“Daddy, it’s me. Your princess!”
“What on earth—”
“Daddy, let’s go home. Mommy and I miss you so much!”
Wincing in guilt, Ethan gathered the right words to turn down the little girl.
“Look, kid. You might be mistaken. I have a wife, and our daughter is living somewhere else. Not here. What’s the name of your mother?” he asked as carefully as possible so the child wouldn’t cry.
“M-Mommy Michelle.” Her voice cracked as she answered.
“My wife’s name is not Michelle, kid.” He inhaled heavily and shook his head. “You are mistaken. I’m sorry to disappoint you.”
“No!” The girl shouted, and then started crying, hugging him tightly like she was afraid to lose him but Ethan couldn’t understand why the kid was acting that way.
