Brielle quickly arranged herself on the bed in Lord Darius’s private chamber when she heard the door open.

She’d been waiting for him for thirty minutes or more; she couldn’t remember.

Today was another night of their training, and she had dressed in the day’s outfit with the assistance of the special maids assigned to her.

She had prepared herself and then walked up to his room with the maids, where she had entered expecting him, but she had been surprised.

The room had been cold, quiet, and empty.

It was the first time she had encountered his chambers empty, and she had initially appeared scared, thinking it was one of his tricks.

She’d opened the door quickly, catching sight of the maids, and explained the empty room situation to them, but they’d told her to wait for him.
