Layla’s POV
Mason’s hand was steady as the cold barrel of the gun pressed against my head.
I stood frozen, my breath shallow and my heart hammering in my chest. Logan stood a few feet away, his fists clenched and his face a mixture of fury and disbelief.
“Logan,” Mason barked, his voice sharper than I’d ever heard. “Tell your men to release Jerulo and his men. Do it now, or I swear I’ll pull the trigger!”
Logan’s jaw tightened, his eyes burning into Mason’s. “You’re out of your mind, Mason. I’m not letting Jerulo go, not for anything. And you? You’ve crossed a line you can’t come back from.”
I couldn’t help but stare at Mason. How had it come to this? This was the same man who had always been so gentle, so kind. He was Logan’s chef, for heaven’s sake! My mind raced back to earlier moments, searching for clues I might have missed.
