Isabella’s POV

Jason stood up slowly, his expression unreadable, though I could see a flicker of something in his eyes…was it defiance? Guilt? Whatever it was, it made my stomach churn. 

Damien was still clutching Jason’s hand, looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes, completely unaware of the storm brewing around him.

“I didn’t mean to upset you, Logan,” Jason said smoothly, his voice calm but firm. “Damien ran over to me. I didn’t want to leave him alone until you came.”

I wanted to scream. Jason’s calm demeanor was infuriating. Did he not understand how close we were to disaster? Did he not care?

Logan’s eyes flicked to Damien, then back to Jason. “You expect me to believe that? Out of all the people in this store, he just happened to run to you?”
