Isabella’s POV

I reached into my bag with trembling hands, my fingers brushing against the smooth surface of the checkbook. 

My heart was pounding in my chest as I pulled it out, my mind racing with a million thoughts. This was my last resort. I didn’t know what else to do.

With a deep breath, I scribbled an amount on the check…an amount so significant it made my hand shake as I wrote it. I tore the check out and held it out toward Caroline, trying to steady my voice.

"Here," I said, my tone firmer than I felt. "Take this. It’s more than enough to give you a fresh start. You can leave this all behind, start over, and live a comfortable life."
