Isabella’s POV
The image of Caroline falling flashed before me, over and over. Her scream echoed in my mind, piercing and haunting. I shook my head, trying to block it out.
"She’s gone," I whispered to myself, my voice shaky. "She’s gone, and there’s no one to harass me anymore."
But even as I said it, I felt a knot in my stomach. It wasn’t guilt…no, I didn’t regret what I did. I had no choice. Caroline left me no choice.
She wouldn’t stop showing up, demanding to take Damien back. My life was perfect, and she wanted to ruin it. I couldn’t let that happen.
I leaned my forehead against the wall, letting the water cascade over me. "Anyway," I muttered, my voice low, "this isn’t the first time."
The thought hit me like a wave, and I straightened, staring blankly at the water swirling down the drain. No, this wasn’t the first time I’d done something like this. Layla.
