I grabbed my phone, tempted to call again, but stopped myself. What was the point? She clearly didn’t want to be bothered.

I slumped back on the couch, crossing my arms as I stared at the door, willing her to walk through it.

The silence was deafening, my own thoughts echoing in my head. Was she okay? Was she safe? Was she... happy?

I shook my head, trying to banish the fears. Layla was smart. She could take care of herself.

But if she was with Logan... if he was the one who swept her off her feet...

I felt my chest tighten, anger and fear swirling together as I gritted my teeth.

If Logan was back in her life, I was going to protect her. No matter what.

I just had to wait for her to come back.
