Layla's POV

“Oh, don’t play dumb. Where is Mr. Handsome? I ordered food for the three of us. I thought we were having dinner together.”

I tried to hide my smile but failed miserably. Maddie’s enthusiasm was contagious, and the way she was searching behind me as if Logan were playing hide and seek was just too funny.

“He’s not here,” I said, taking off my shoes.

Maddie’s face fell, her lips forming a pout. 

“Why? Did he chicken out? Or is he hiding in the car because he’s too shy to meet your best friend?” She winked, clearly enjoying herself.

I laughed, shaking my head. “No, he’s not hiding in the car.”

“Then where is he?” Maddie’s eyes widened, her curiosity intensifying. 

“Did he drop you off and just leave? What kind of boyfriend does that?”

“Calm down,” I said, patting her shoulder. But Maddie wasn’t having it. She was too worked up to be calmed down.

“Did he get cold feet?” she continued, fol
