Isabella's POV
“Of course,” I lied, my chest tightening as guilt gnawed at me. “He was sick for a while. Maybe he’s still getting his strength back.”
Logan seemed to accept that, his shoulders relaxing as he sighed.
“Yeah, maybe. Still... he’s been acting strange ever since he got out of the hospital.” He looked back at the house, his face thoughtful.
“I hope nothing’s bothering him.”
I swallowed, my stomach churning as I forced myself to nod.
“I’m sure he’s fine,” I said, my voice wavering. “He just needs time.”
Time. That was the one thing I didn’t have. Because I knew exactly what was bothering Damien.
I knew why he refused to look at me, why he wouldn’t speak to me, why his eyes were filled with anger and pain whenever I was around.
He knew.
I didn’t know how, or when, but somehow, my son knew the truth.
He knew I wasn’t his real mother.
