Layla’s POV
A deep blush spread across Jason’s face, creeping up to his ears. He tried to hide it by clearing his throat and looking down at his ice cream, but the redness only intensified.
I laughed. "Oh my God, Jason, stop blushing!"
"I’m not blushing," he muttered, but his face was betraying him.
"You so are," I teased. "And it makes you look even cuter."
He groaned, rubbing the back of his neck. "You’re impossible."
"But you love me for it."
Jason sighed dramatically, then looked at me with a soft smile.
"Yeah, I do."
For a moment, I felt warmth spread through my chest. Jason had always been my safe space, the one person I could count on no matter what.
He was my best friend, the father of my son, and the one who had been there for me through everything.
And yet…
I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about anyone else.
I shook off the feeling and focused back on Jason.
