Jason’s POV
I studied her face, searching for any hint that she was lying. But if she was, she was damn good at hiding it.
"Alright," I said slowly, nodding.
Layla sighed. "Why are you so worked up about it? Maybe it was just a kind stranger who wanted to do something nice."
I scoffed. "Nothing is ever that simple."
She shook her head, sliding into the car.
"Sometimes, Jason, it actually is."
I wasn’t convinced.
As I got into the driver’s seat and started the car, I made a silent promise to myself…I was going to find out who did this.
And when I did, I would make sure they knew Layla wasn’t someone they could just play games with.
