By sunrise, my men and I resumed our journey to the next town. There was an awkwardness that hung in the air between Kamael and I. When I mentioned that my heart belonged to someone else the night before, he went pale like he had seen a ghost. He said nothing else after that, bidding me goodnight before leaving. By the morrow, he spoke to me only when it was necessary and even then, he refused to look me in the eyes.

I felt terrible throughout the first day of our journey. My eyes would occasionally wander to him on his horse, hoping that he would look at me with a smile.
