Chapter 40
Maxine's POV
I needed to tell Tobias to hold off on our training for a while, at least until Liam's suspicions died down. But finding the right moment was difficult. I didn't want to raise any more alarms.
Late one night, when I was sure Liam was busy, I snuck out to Tobias’s quarters. The silence of the night amplified every sound, making my heart race. When I arrived and knocked softly, Tobias opened the door, looking surprised to see me despite Liam’s warning.
"Maxine, why are you here? Do you want to get yourself into trouble?" he asked, with a troubled tone.
"Tobias, I know," I whispered, stepping inside. "That was why I came. To tell you that we will be holding up the training for sometime."
Tobias nodded, understanding my view. "That's true. We have to lay low for now."
