“How about this,” said Adam, “I’ll help you this time, and in the future, if I need anything for work, you’ll be the first one I call.”
Hazel froze for a moment. Adam was referring to work-related matters, which on the surface seemed harmless, but something about his words made her uneasy. Maybe it was the fact that he hadn’t explicitly mentioned what kind of help he would need, which left her feeling a bit anxious.
“Don’t worry, it won’t negatively affect your company. We’re just making a verbal agreement. If it ever goes against your principles, you can always refuse,” he added with a reassuring smile.
