Chapter 80
There was silence. Mark stared without a thought or an image in his mind.
There was just the old feeling, the feeling that he had had most of his life: he was a failure and had done wrong, and people were always looking at something with which they would make him feel that way.
It was the old feeling, hard and constant again now, of wanting to grab something and clutch it in his hands and swing it into someone’s face. He knew that the man who he owed money was still searching for him. He knew that despite the silence he felt, if he hoped that he won’t be caught by the man he owed money, then he was deceiving himself.
He wiped his forehead carefully, removing the sweat that was making him feel awkward. He was glad that the man he owed money did not know where he lived because if he did, it would be bad news for him, Sophia and Liam.
Then, he lowered his head slowly as he watched the men who were searching the room. They were looking at the painting on the wall
