Riley’s POV
“Forty-eight hours?” I echoed, hoping my voice didn’t crack like a freshman asking for extra credit in calculus.
Adeline shrugged, her lips a sympathetic curve. “I’m sure your mom could just, I dunno, take him back to wherever she found him.”
Right. Because if he’d been a stray puppy, I would’ve staged a puppy adoption rescue for sure. But newsflash: werewolves don’t come with chew-toy guarantees. They come with fangs.
I glanced at my phone—11:57 p.m. My mom was somewhere in dreamland, blissfully unaware that her daughter was living in a paranormal frat house. I forced out, “I’ll call her tomorrow.”
Adeline winced. “Sorry. I even ran it by my advisor, but she backed Mason.”
I plopped onto the edge of the bed, wrapping my arms around my stomach as if to contain the panic brewing inside. “Thanks for trying,” I mumbled. “I appreciate it.”
