“That girl was… interesting,” Enzo said, his voice brimming with curiosity. “Your husband’s ex-girlfriend?”
I shook my head. “No.”
“Are you alright? You want to smack her face? I will support you behind.”
“She’s not worth it.”
Enzo sighed, reaching over to lift my chin so that I could look at him. I searched his eyes for indications of rage or ridicule, but I found nothing but genuine concern in their blue depths. “As much as I want us to leave this place, I can’t. I know you’re already hungry. Providing you with a satisfying meal is more important to me now than anything else.”
I smiled at him.
The next few minutes were spent with me and Enzo eating our food in silence. He had a Florentine butter chicken dish, while I indulged in an Italian casserole with baked rice and steamed clams.
