Chapter 1

Lucia’s POV

Bitch, wake up.

It’s time to wake up.

You will surely regret it if you do not wake up.

I said wake up, crazy idiot.

I really hate that ringtone, which Ava decided to put on so that it can always wake me up.

I’m not an early person, but for the sake of my employees and my company, I really need to wake up early enough. My company is actually my everything. I refused to inherit my father’s company, and he was so furious. It was not because I did not want to, but it was because I was not passionate about what they make. I wanted a makeup line and not a technology development. Somehow, I manage both since I help my dad, even though he is still in office. He said that he could never force me to do something I did not want, but in the future, I will have to manage both anyway since he did not want to sell the family business. He also said that his future grandchildren will inherit it, but until then, I have to help him. I did not have any problem with that since he did not prevent me from starting my own company.

I got out of bed and walked to my washroom so that I could do my daily routine. After brushing my teeth, I walked to the bathroom and got a shower. I was late therefore I had no time to use the bathing tub. After ten minutes, I was already out and walked towards my closet. I chose a white suit, black handbag, and black heels. I applied a little make up on my face. After I had finished my preparations, I walked out of my bedroom. I found Yvonne, my house help, in the kitchen.

“Morning, Yvonne.”

“Morning, Lucia. What do you prefer to have this morning?”

“What have you prepared?”

“I just finished baking some muffins.”

“Mmh. Wow. I will have two and orange juice.”

“Alright. Coming up in a few,” she said and went to get me my breakfast.

After a couple of minutes, she brought it. The muffins were so delicious.

“Mmmh. Can you please pack some for me so that I can carry them to the office? They are so delicious.”

“Sure.”

I had offered her to be my secretary in the company, but she had refused. She told me she loved her work here in the house and that she doesn’t like to work in offices. There is a lot of pressure there. But she was very correct actually. Nonetheless, she is really a great cook.

“Here it is,” she said as she placed the lunch pack on the dining table.

“Okay. You can continue with your work.”

After finishing the breakfast, I picked up my handbag and lunch pack and walked out of the house.

“Bye. I’m leaving. See you in the evening,” I shouted loud enough for her to hear.

“Okay. Have a nice day,” she shouted back.

I picked a white car to match my outfit.

When I arrived at the office, I parked my car in the usual spot and walked in the building.

“Morning,” I said to the employees.

“Morning, ma’am,” they said, and I walked to my personal elevator so that I could go to my office, which was on the top floor.

“Morning,” my secretary Emily said.

“Morning,” I said and walked past her.

She followed me to the office to inform me about today’s schedule. I sat at my black leather chair, waiting for her to start talking. When she did not, I got angry. I hate tardiness, and she clearly knew that.

“You are wasting time,” I snapped, and it seemed to bring her mind back.

“Am…I’m sorry, ma’am. Today you do not have any meetings. Just reading and signing the reports,” she said.

I nodded and gestured to her to get out. She was really great at ruining my mornings.

I have been seated in this chair since I arrived at seven in the morning. Being a CEO was both hard and simple cause I really enjoyed it and loved my employees.

I did not inherit this company like the idiot CEO of Knight Corp – I started it from scratch when I was in university. That bastard was always full of himself. He didn’t know that I was the owner of Light Corporation, and I didn’t want him to even know.

Lunch time was near, and I had to release my secretary so that she could go and have lunch.

Bing. Bing. Bing.

Seriously! Who calls me when I’m at work? Don’t they know my rules?

I took my phone and saw that it was my mother calling. Even so, she knew never to call while I was at work. I hate the disturbance. Sending me a text or an email was much better, but that didn’t mean that I would read and respond immediately.

“Hello, mom.”

“Hello, dear. How have you been?” She asked, and I knew she was trying to avoid my lecture by calling me when I was at work.

“I’m doing fine, mom, why did you call at working hours? Couldn’t you have called me during lunch break?”

I was so mad because right now I could have been in my last documents that needed to be viewed and sighed.

“I know, and I’m sorry. I called you to inform you that your father wants you to come for dinner,” I knew he was the one who made her call at this time.

My mother knew never to bother me when I was at work, but my dad thought otherwise since he claimed he was the big boss and my mentor. That is true, by the way, I’m here today thanks to my father’s advice and guidance.

“Okay, mom. I’ll be there, I’ve missed you so much.”

“We miss you too, dummy, I will now let you continue with your work. See you later.’

“See you later, mom.”

“Love you, and take care.”

“Love you too, and, ooh, I will.”

What does dad want to talk to me about? I will have to go to the mansion to find out.

I hurried to finish work. Thank God, today I did not have any meetings.

A knock on the door.

“Come in.”

My secretary walked in.

“Ma’am….” She did not get to finish her sentence because Ava interrupted her.

“Why don’t you fire this bitch? She is really annoying, you know,” she said while she walked in.

“It’s okay. You can go back to your desk,” I told my secretary.

“Tell me, why are you here?” I asked her.

“Really? Is that how you welcome your best friend?” she asked while pretending to cry.

“Enough with the fake tears,” I shook my head.

“Okay. Fine. I just missed you, and I wanted to see you,” she said, making me roll my eyes.

“Anyways, you have seen me, and am pretty sure it’s evident I’m doing fine.”

“You are not fun,” she pouted, making me laugh.

“I had an argument with mom; therefore, I came here to clear my mind,” she finally said the reason she was here.

“Good. Now help me to go through these papers. There are so many, and I have dinner with my parents today.”

“Did I hear you correctly?”

“Yeah, yeah, you did. Now, come take these.”

I chose a bundle of papers for her to go through. I trusted her to help me since she was the one who helped me to start this business before she took over her parents’ company.

Wait, if she is here, who is at her office?

“Ava, who have you left in charge of the company?”

“No one. They keep telling me that I’m not doing anything so I decided to let them have their company and work to make it famous because they think I’m not doing my best.”

“Hey, it’s okay. They will later realize their mistake. You brought that company to the top. They should be glad that it’s in the top 5 list.”

“Exactly. Can we not talk about it or them?” She asked, and I nodded cause I clearly understood what she was going through.

We kept quiet and started going through the papers. These papers included what all the departments had been doing and what they had accomplished. I was impressed by some, but others hadn’t made any improvement. But at least none of the departments were below their last year’s results.

I heard Ava’s stomach making sounds, and that made me chuckle.

“Didn’t you eat anything in the morning?”

“Sadly, I did not.”

“I have….” she interrupted me, and I glared at her, which she gladly shrugged at.

“Let us first finish these. We have a little to go.”

“Okay,” I said because there was no point in arguing with her.
