Chapter 19. Hunger

Nica staggered and came dangerously to falling backwards before Mark caught hold of her, steadying her by gripping her shoulders.
Her face was covered with scratches, her hair was disheveled, and she was panting like she was going to pass out.
I smirked in satisfaction as I finally grabbed my bag from the floor, and stalked past them with my head held high. I made my way back to Enzo, and I could still hear what Mark told her. “I can’t believe you did all of that. I thought you were a respectable woman. I’m sorry Nica, but we’re over.”
“What? Mark, wait! How about the wedding?” she asked, her voice becoming inaudible as I got closer to the man who was waiting for me at the table.
“Are you done?” Enzo asked, standing up, and offering me his arm.
“Yes.” I nodded as I hooked my arm around his, and together we exited the restaurant. I saw Nica’s fiancé driving away from the parking lot, while Nica had just stepped out, looking around for
