As I placed my phone on the nightstand, memories of the intimate moments Kaden and I shared came rushing back. I had to resist the urge to crawl back into bed, cover myself with the blankets, and drift off to sleep again.
A mix of shame and anger bubbled up inside me—shame for how easily I had fallen for Kaden's tricks. He made me think he had real feelings for me, but maybe he was just playing me to keep control of the company. I refuse to let that happen.
I grabbed the intercom and asked Lia to bring me a newspaper before I hopped in the shower. The hot water worked wonders, easing the tension in my mind and relaxing muscles I didn’t even know were tight. After wrapping myself in a soft towel, I stepped out just as someone knocked on the door.
“The door’s open,” I called out, assuming it was Lia with the paper. I moved to the window, trying to catch a glimpse of Lincoln in my neighbor’s backyard.
