I heard the man stop at the same spot where I had just been standing a few seconds ago, and it appeared as though he was also having difficulty deciding which side of the small intersection he should turn to.
I felt a sense of weariness spread throughout my limbs as I clenched my knees together. At the same time, I became aware that my body was reflexively constricting itself into a contracted position. I concealed any sound I could have made by covering my mouth with my hands.
“My dearest Reese. Where have you gone, baby? Stop trying to hide and come home with me, my darling.” The man laughed with an evil sound as his eyes swept the area around him, trying to find out where I may have gone in order to escape his pursuit.
