Lilly’s POV
“Lex?” I muttered, startled, my heart leaping into my throat as I scrambled out of the booth. Fear and confusion tangled in my chest. “What are you doing here?”
Lex’s presence was thunder in the quiet diner. His glare could have set the table ablaze. “The question should be, why are you here with him? Is he your lover? Are you running away with him?”
Not this again. My stomach churned with irritation and a bitter, familiar disappointment.
Annoyance bubbled up inside me, spreading heat through my limbs until my hands trembled. I’d had enough. Why can’t he just trust me?
How does he always know where to find me? My mind spun with frustration.
“Who said I was leaving?” I shot back, unable to hide the edge in my voice. I could feel the eyes of the room pressing in, but I didn’t care. I was sick of being accused.
