Calista’s POV
“I brought a first aid kit with me,” Calista said calmly, setting it down beside me. I could see Zane shaking his head slightly, his expression pained as he looked at me.
“It’s nothing serious, Calista,” Zane replied, his voice strained and raspy. He winced slightly as he shifted, clearly feeling discomfort just from moving. “It wasn’t that painful. Just a little bruise from when Gabriel…”
“I saw everything,” I interjected, my worry evident in my voice. “I just need you to tell me the truth. It’s the right thing to do, especially after all the times you’ve looked out for me,” I murmured, feeling the weight of the moment settle between us.
