Chapter 138
Ramon POV
The call came at 4:47 AM.
I’d been dozing in one of the uncomfortable chairs in the family lounge, my body too exhausted to stay awake but my mind too wired to actually sleep. Lake had finally agreed to rest about two hours ago—I’d practically forced him into the shower, then made him eat half a sandwich before he’d collapsed onto one of the cots Elena had arranged for us. He’d been asleep almost immediately, his body finally giving in to the exhaustion that had been building for days.
I’d been watching him sleep, making sure his breathing stayed even, that he didn’t wake up screaming from nightmares. So when my phone vibrated in my pocket, I grabbed it immediately, not wanting the sound to wake him.
Rhodes’s name flashed on the screen.
My heart lurched. Rhodes wouldn’t call at this hour unless—
“What’s wrong?” I asked, my voice low as I stood and moved toward the door. “Is Ollie—”
