I was sick of fighting and holding onto grudges. They got heavy and I had enough to carry so I decided to drop it and I leapt from the ground and circled my arms around this neck.

Gabe caught me and tightly wound his arms around my back while his face rested in the crock of my neck.

We stood like that for a while, embracing and relishing in a comfort that I missed even if it hadn’t been gone for that long.

Gabe was always there, ready to protect me or make a joke that would bring a smile to my face. He was the one who reminded me of what my laugh sounded like—a sound I would occasionally forget amid the chaos that had become our lives.

“I have to talk to find Darian. Will you be okay?”
