Chapter 1. Betrayed

Clenching her hand around the glass of water, Moira felt disappointment as she stared at the two figures from afar, appearing closely intertwined as they danced in the middle of the hall with everyone applauding them. Even though she stood on the rooftop of the mansion, her super sharp hearing allowed her to hear clearly the compliments on how good the couple looked together.

The couple was Moira’s boyfriend and her step-sister from another woman and it went without saying that she had treated them both well, even putting in a good word for Tyler to her father, who then accepted him as one of his Betas.

Moira could still remember the vows he made to her, promising that she would be the only woman he ever held in this lifetime. But forget about a lifetime, it hadn’t been a year since the incident happened, and he was already dancing intimately with her younger sister.

She wanted to go to where they were and separate them, she stopped herself from doing so, not wanting to appear unladylike, especially since her father seemed to be picking up even the tiniest fault in her these days.

Biting her lip in disappointment, she saw her father, the Alpha, walking onto the stage with a smile. Wondering what her old man was planning, Moira squinted her eyes.

Alpha Kameron smiled warmly at the people in the hall before his gaze finally landed on the two couples, and he waved his hand.

“You young people, always shoving dog food down our throats.”

Everybody laughed, while Ashley stomped her foot on the floor with a blushing cheek, looking as fresh as a morning rose.

“Father…”

“Uh, everybody, stop laughing, my daughter is shy.”

The people broke into another round of laughter, which sounded especially painful to Moira’s ears. She couldn’t understand what was going on at all!

First, it was her sister and boyfriend’s strange behavior, and now, it was her father’s weird sentence.

She faintly felt that something was wrong, but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Thus, she could only watch her father continue with the gentle smile on his face, never fading as his hypnotic warm voice resonated in the hall.

“…I have something important to announce to you all, and that is; the Moon Goddess felt that my daughter, Ashley, and Tyler are compatible, thus, she bestowed them a title that we all know—THEY ARE MATES!”

Moira’s eyes widened as the glass of water in her hand came crashing down, the contents splashing onto her dress as her father’s words echoed in her ears.

Tyler and Ashley are compatible, they are mates!

The sentence was like a thunderclap descending on her, and her heart aches in her chest as if an invisible hand was gripping it.

Her father knew how much she loves him and had even once said to her that whatever man she wants, he would help her get it but now…

He had clearly gone back on his word and instead supported them.

Gripping her chest with a shaking hand, tears streamed down her face and blurred her vision. She could still hear the people’s cheers, their compliments, and the couple sharing a deep kiss.

She wanted to turn her face away and stop watching but it was as if her eyes were glued onto them. Without telling her, she knew how pathetic she looks at this moment as she wiped the tears from her cheeks with her sleeve.

Seeing her father walking out of the hall with his Delta, she hurriedly ran downstairs, one hand holding the hem of her dress, not caring about the damn etiquette.

“Father!” she called out, and he paused. Stopping in front of him, she clenched her hand against her dress and asked with a voice full of pain. “What the hell do you mean that Ashley and Tyler are betrothed to each other? Then what about me? What about me, father?! I am the only daughter of the late Luna and your eldest daughter. Are you saying that compared to my sister, I am not worthy?! Or did you forget the promise you once made to me?!”

Her father’s smiley face vanished as he stared at her with disgust and mockery. “You wastrel! Did you think that a man like Tyler is what you deserve? You are just a wolfless daughter; shouldn’t you be thanking me for letting you stay in this pack for two years and still live like a princess? But that wasn’t enough for you, why are you so shameless just like your mother?!”

Moira gaped at her father and found it hard to accept.

Her father wasn’t like this. His eyes always held gentleness when he talked to her in the past. He was kind and doted on her a lot, but now…

He passed by her, cursing her as he stormed away.

A self-deprecating smile found its way to Moira’s lips as she remembered the past that was now a dream compared to her present.

In the past, she was the respectable eldest princess and a young werewolf. However, at the age of 15, her father suddenly proposed the idea of expanding their territory, and she was the one who brought the suitable strategy, allowing them to chase away the rogues and even take over some small packs.

At that time, everyone felt that she was the illegitimate daughter of the Moon Goddess and was only second to the Alpha in terms of popularity among her pack members.

Not only that, she was physically stronger than a normal werewolf and was able to defeat one of her father’s Betas with her raw strength.

Everyone felt that when she grew up and had a wolf, her wolf would definitely be the most powerful among the females, and she also believed that. But what was the end result? She didn’t even have a wolf.

It wasn’t long before the elders who used to listen to her suggestions started to cast her aside, and even the maids slowly started making things difficult for her. The looks of admiration and reverence she used to get were now replaced with loathing and ridicule.

Even though Moira was sad, as long as her loved ones didn’t find her repulsive, she didn’t have a problem with that. But now… her father, her sister, and her boyfriend… their stance was crystal clear.

With a defeated expression and heavy legs, Moira slowly walked to her luxury room. It was still like how it was in the past, the only thing that had changed was the lack of vibrance coupled with the wither flower in a vase that the maid attending to her didn’t come to pick up.

Sitting on the floor by the door with her head against the wall, Moira’s heart felt empty but at the same time stuffy. Deep in thought, the sound of the door being pushed open made her awaken, and her gaze landed on the person who just entered—it was Ashley, her half-sister.

Ashley was as beautiful as before, with a standard oval face and big grape-like eyes that added to her pure aura. She has long brown hair and looks petite, she was a year younger than Moira.

Even though the face was still the same when Moira looks at it now, she felt that something has changed, and she really didn’t want to believe that the person in front of her was her Ashley, however, reality proved it. It was indeed the same person, the only difference was that the past was an acting, and the present was the real.

Before, Ashley would always call after her like a little kid with a pure smile, but only now did Moira see the malice and viciousness in her dewy green eyes.

“Oh, dear sister, your smelly face is filled with tears. Could it be that you are sad? Sad? Why?” Ashley scoffed, arms crossed against her chest as she looked down at her.

“Losing your beloved must have hurt a lot, right? Tsk tsk, see how pathetic you look, acting all mighty around but now you aren’t even worthy of washing my foot!” Ashley continued to taunt her.

But Moira only stares into space, everything was like a dream from which she wanted to escape from, but the jeering voice above her was a sad reminder.
