Chapter 46. Stench of Death
“She might go into labor sooner than expected,” he said gravely. “Her body is too weak to hold on much longer—but the reason for her condition remains unclear.”
The news unsettled Theo, who immediately ordered for her to be cared for with utmost attention. During this time, Samantha spared no effort in showing her false devotion. She was always by Rina’s side—helping her sit up, feeding her carefully prepared meals, and massaging her hands with feigned affection.
Her gentle tone and quiet obedience softened Rina’s heart. “I’m glad you came back with us,” Rina said one afternoon, smiling faintly through her exhaustion. “You’ve truly changed, Samantha.”
Theo, standing by the door, overheard those words and felt a flicker of guilt. Perhaps he had misjudged her after all. Perhaps the old Samantha—the scheming, jealous woman—was gone.
And with that comforting thought, he began to lower his guard, unaware of the silent poison blooming within Rina’s body day by day.
