The polished desk felt cold beneath Alisha's trembling fingertips as she stared at the file spread before her like evidence of a crime she'd unknowingly helped commit. The afternoon sunlight streaming through Elizabeth's office windows seemed to mock the darkness of what lay within those pages.
She read it once. Twice. Three times, each reading making her stomach churn with increasing violence. Vanessa's hospital records. Police reports from the attack at Vanessa's home, complete with crime scene photographs that made bile rise in her throat. Blood spatter analysis. Broken glass.
