I was a ball of nerves. I wanted to protect these children with all of my heart. I know they wouldn’t want for anything material with Carrington, but they deserved a home and love. I hoped one day they would accept me as a mother figure. I wanted to give them everything that I missed out on in my childhood. It was terrifying to wait for their decision. I couldn’t force them to choose me, and the lack of control had me on pins and needles.
