Maris spotted Lani approaching, Maris’s steps lively and swift. Lani enthusiastically greeted her and handed her two pastry boxes.

“Why go through all the trouble, bringing sweet treats like this? You’ve already worked hard enough. Next time, you don’t have to bring pastries. Take a good rest whenever you have the time,” Maris remarked.

Maris, captivated by the pastry boxes, couldn’t let go. However, she didn’t forget to remind Lani not to overexert herself. A month apart, and Maris sensed that Lani had become thinner, sparking concern.

“It’s okay, Mom. I enjoy baking. It helps me relax and feel more at ease,” Lani reassured.

“Why don’t you try opening one and having some yourself? If you like it, I’ll bring you some whenever I come,” Lani suggested.

Maris, with a sweet tooth, eagerly nodded upon hearing this. She opened the pastry box, grabbed three paper plates and a serving dish, then cut a piece of tiramisu for each person.

It was Lani’s most
