Emmeline nestled her head into the pillow, cradling the phone between both hands as if it were his face. “I miss you, too,” she confessed in a tremulous murmur. “So much. You were my only escape from the dreariness of my life. Just being around you was enough to make me forget all my troubles for a little while. I could drown in the depths of your eyes...” She trailed off, burying her face in the pillow as a lump rose in her throat. “I need you, too.”
