Emmeline blinked up at him. “I don’t know...maybe because it’s so quiet, like a ghost town. I feel like I’d hear my echo if I spoke too loudly.”

A faint smile played across his lips. “Your voice won’t echo,” he spoke at a normal volume.

He was right - his deep voice didn’t reverberate at all in the silence.

“I reserved the entire center so no one would disturb us tonight. Taking you out requires...special arrangements.”

Emmeline gazed around in awe at the opulent surroundings. “This place is so luxurious. It must have cost a small fortune to have it all to ourselves.”

“I have more than enough money sitting idle in my accounts,” Zavian replied calmly. “I finally have a good reason to spend it.”

His eyes glinted with wry amusement. “It’s not like I have anyone to leave an inheritance to.”
