Chapter 64. Jealousy
After a while of silence, Arnold lifted his gun and pressed it at the back of Lucien’s head. His left hand gripped Lucien’s neck tightly, forcing him forward. He pushed him down the stairs step by step, his boots echoing against the cold concrete.
When they reached the second-to-last step, Arnold stopped. His breath was heavy, his eyes sharp as steel.
“Give me the document,” Arnold barked, his voice low and dangerous. “While I give him to you.”
Zayn stood at the bottom of the staircase. His face was calm, but his fingers twitched near his weapon. Slowly, he brought up the brown envelope and tossed it onto the ground beside Arnold’s right boot. The envelope landed with a dull thud.
Arnold wasted no time. He shoved Lucien forward and bent to grab the envelope. Lucien stumbled, falling straight into Zayn’s arms.
“Are you okay?” Zayn asked quickly, holding him tight.
Lucien clung to him, his body trembling. “Let’s go home… I’m scared.”
