Chapter 44. She Is to Be Killed
Rose’s POV
The room shifted, literally.
A long chair at the corner of the hut moved towards Rose, the fire in the hearth flared suddenly as the old woman on the bed turned to face her.
She jerked upright, the move weird, it was as if a string had yanked her up instead of her moving on her own accord. Her lips parted as her graying cloudy eyes narrowed at Rose.
“What did you say?” her voice was low and unthreatening, but Rose flinched as she quickly sat down on the chair in front of her.
She swallowed, clenched her fists and forced herself to look the woman in the eyes, “Matron.” She spoke slowly, the urgency all but gone from her tone. “I said I met an impossible wolf.”
The old woman, Lucille’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “You know I am old, girl. I do not have time for your riddles today,” she growled, “What do you mean?”
