Why would they ask that? Weren’t they supposed to inquire about why he was also at the bar and what he was doing there? Were they not supposed to ask if he was really telling the truth about only following her and not doing anything else?
Right! He had lied that he was drunk and couldn’t remember some things, so as to make her parents think that even if something would have happened, it wasn’t entirely his fault.
Lucy sniffed and waited. She what Cedric’s answer would be to her mother. She waited for another lie from him. The next lie he was going to skillfully conjure up.
“I’m afraid I also have that knowledge, Auntie.” Cedric replied. “I had my suspicion he had taken her, but I never confirmed things until last night. They were together at the bar. And she was drunk—” he glanced at Lucy, putting on a helpless look. “Which was why I followed her. I thought I could save her but I lost her. It’s entirely my fault. I should have told you,” he said in a humble voice.<
