Chapter 45. Packer's Kiss
Kate's POV
"Who is your father? Is that why you came here?" I winced at the question, not wanting to delve into painful memories. "I don't want to talk about it. Let's forget it," I abruptly cut the conversation short, desperately needing some rest. I lay down, silencing myself.
Packer seemed even more worn-out than I was, trying to steal glances at me surreptitiously. Our eyes would meet, and then he would d hastily divert his gaze to his tablet, pretending he wasn't watching me. Before I knew it, exhaustion overtook me, and I drifted off into sleep.
The next morning, I found myself back in Matt's mansion; the new room he gave me. As I pondered the events of the previous day, I couldn't believe I had been rescued. My life had taken an unexpected turn, all because of my own troubles. Lost in thought, a loud pounding on the door startled me. "Come in," I called out.
