Kate saw when Jenna went out to the kitchen, as she had been watching them since Adam arrived.

  She took advantage of this and sat down opposite him. You couldn't see his eyes, but you could sense that he wasn't well. And even though she feared it was a bad time, she needed to support him, whatever he was doing. She believed it was something about Anna, because after talking to Jenna, he left in a hurry, looking lost.
