Chapter 62. Plant Nymph

“Will she live?” Max inquired with a concerned look.

When the whispering of Max’s name continued and never seized; Helen and Max followed the fading whispering to the back of the cabin - - only to find Meliae in her dying breath laying some few paces away from the log cabin. She has been fatally wounded.

Max didn’t relent but rushed to help her in her unconscious state. ‘Hey Meliae, it’s me, Max,’ said Max as he quickly grabbed her in his arms. He pleaded for Helen to invite Meliae in.

‘I don’t invite strangers.’ Helen glared at Max. She was concerned about losing Max to Meliae not that she didn’t know that to Max, Meliae wasn’t a stranger. However, from the look of things, Helen could tell that Meliae was a plant nymph but this didn’t change anything.

After much pleading and persuasion, Max finally got Helen to invite Meliae in. That’s how the apotropaic marks work. Only the witch that puts it gets to invite someone in.
