Chapter 27. Missing Her

I sigh and look down at my full plate of food. My stomach growls, but I can’t bring myself to eat any of it.

I want her back. If I had my way, we would have sent someone else to go back and finish the investigation.

Also, I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something is gnawing at me. She was enjoying our multiple rounds of sex, but something felt a little different. Again, I can’t narrow it down to one thing, but something was a little off.

I take my fork and lightly poke at the steak before I push the small chunks of potato around.

Cough… Cough…

I slowly look up from my food and glance at my mother and father. “What?”

The corner of my mother’s mouth curves downward as she points to my plate. “Is something wrong with your food? You normally love steak, but you haven’t even touched it so far. It is going to get cold before you actually eat it.”

I shake my head and sigh again. “No. I guess wish we would have sent someone else
