A year after Cassie and James fled Caines. Caines, Terres Somnia
The call came on a Wednesday from someone who declined to give a name. All he said was that Cassie and James wanted him to know that they were okay. For the first time in a year Aaron didn’t feel like he was buried under grief. On Wednesdays she went horse riding. Correction: on Wednesdays, that’s now what they did.
Maybe today they didn’t need to get drunk out of their minds. Or maybe some sick freak had gotten a hold of the truth and played some sick joke on him. Flashes of James’ still body being carried off ran through his mind. He could still see the blood all over Cassie’s hands and clothes. So much blood. And then the bullets that followed that first one just for good measure. Aaron just couldn’t see how James and Cassie might have survived that.
