Chapter 151. Could She?
She rocked over and over again "She wouldn't let him go; she was never going to let him go. Over and over again. It doesn't matter how much I ran or how much I pleaded. How much I fought or screamed. She was never going to let him go. I always end up losing him. I disappointed him," she said in a forlorn voice minutes later, after she had sat rocking herself for a while. The wild look was still in her eyes, but it was receding.
Bernard was just getting the hang of what her dream was about when she looked up again and said in that same awful voice, "He did nothing wrong. He was innocent. He had a lot of his life ahead of him, but my carelessness cost him his precious life. I...I... I failed him. As his mother, I failed him," she said in agitation, looking wildly around like she was expecting to see the child.
