Chapter 172. A Three-Months Pact

Bernard looked at her sheepishly as she explained what had transpired, and he almost laughed out loud at himself for the myriad of thoughts he had had on his way to her.

Marissa gave him a look as if she saw him try to stifle laughter.

"What is funny?"

"Me, I am what is funny," he said as he couldn't hold back his mirth again and burst out laughing.

Marissa kept looking at him with a reluctantly amused look on her face.

"I…am. I am sorry. But wait, why was the door ajar?"

"No idea; I probably didn't close it well after seeing them off, and it opened," Marissa explained, inwardly berating herself for her carelessness.

Bernard sobered up after a while, then he gave her a serious look as he said, "I don't want to keep doing this, Rissa. Please, let's stop doing this," he implored.

"Stop doing what?" Marissa asked, her tone matching his, as she stood up from the bed to go get a robe from her wardrobe, savoring her right leg.
