Chapter 53

I shook my head from the thoughts, and suddenly my phone rang. Jaxsen is calling.

I looked at Mark beside me. He beamed and nodded as if he was fine with me answering that. And what the hell did I wait for his permission?

I winced before answering Jaxsen’s call.

“H-Hi…” I started.

“Hello. Where are you?” There was a trace of laughter in his voice. I frowned when I heard the noise in his background.

“Uh, on my way home. I just came to check on my arm…” I lied.

“Okay, I’ll wait for you here. I’m home already. Drive safe, okay?”

“Uh-huh.” Then I hung up.

I stood up and put my cell phone back in the pouch. I faced Mark, who was now frowning while looking at his cell phone.

I sniffed to get his attention. He immediately looked up at me.

“I need to go home,” I say goodbye.

He stood up and put his cell phone in his pocket. “Let’s go together.” He said, gently grabbing my elbow to guide me back to where we had passed earlier.
