There were many of them, a small pack of people with wolf blood.
Ivan had trusted me with many details of all that. I had to trust that everything would work out, on all levels.
“Do you feel like running away?” he told me, joking.
“I don’t think I can go very far by running,” I responded, in the same tone, pointing to the window and the snow outside.
“They have—”
“No problem.” I turned to look at him, with a smile, and searched for a change of underwear blindly, in a drawer of the dressing room. “Isn’t it normal to be nervous? I’m going to stand before royalty and let them examine me, practically. I think I have a right to feel a couple of butterflies in my stomach; don’t worry. Just don’t leave me alone with them, and I’ll be fine.”
“I’m not going to leave you alone,”
